Alice K. Howey Scholarship

Alice K. Howey Scholarship Applications Are Available for Indian Land High School Seniors

This scholarship is open for Indian Land High school seniors with a preference given to those who were involved in the library advisory board and/or intend to pursue a degree in library science/information services.

Alice K. Howey served on the faculty of Indian Land Schools for forty years as a 6th grade teacher, as head of the English Department, as basketball coach, and as librarian beginning in the late 1960s. During her tenure as librarian, the library collection grew exponentially. She sponsored a senior and formed a junior library club which encouraged students to be service-oriented in maintaining their library. She utilized new technology as it became available. Following her retirement, Mrs. Howey served on the Indian Land Area School Board beginning in 1983 and going on to serve as chairwoman of the board. Her dedication to education and her leadership are honored with the Alice K. Howey Memorial Scholarship.

The 2024 applications are due by 4:00 p.m. on March 29, 2024.
