Promise Neighborhood

A unique partnership with the Clinton Elementary attendance zone committed to ensuring educational success from birth to college.

PFY serves as the fiscal agent in this community-wide collaborative effort with public and private partners

Promise Neighborhood is a unique partnership committed to doing whatever it takes within the Clinton Elementary attendance zone to help empower, strengthen, engage and educate families through restoring community pride and ensuring educational success for every child birth to college.

We continue to garner community support in the form of almost 1,000 volunteers participating in 18 workdays that has resulted in 14 houses being painted, 66 tons of debris being removed (including clearing out a former drug house), and dozens of yards cleared. We also have begun reclaiming an abandoned lot and turning it in to a park on Brooklyn Avenue.

Modeled off of the dynamic Harlem Children’s Zone (NY), the Promise Neighborhood project is a pipeline of programs beginning at birth, continuing through graduation/career for everyone in the Clinton to AR Rucker Middle to Lancaster High attendance zone –┬áthe most impoverished section of Lancaster County. We also have begun reclaiming an abandoned lot and turning it in to a park on Brooklyn Avenue. We are restoring the area one workday at a time for where one sees beauty, one finds hope.

Clinton Avenue Renovation. Before and After

The former drug house will be utilized in the future for a warming center and will house various programs for the neighborhood. Funds have been raised by donations from individuals, memorial gifts, Founders, Springs Close Foundation, PFY, Duke Energy, Nibrol, Springs Memorial Hospital, Lancaster Community Foundation, Nutramax Laboratories, and Comporium.
